Meet our Members

Heather

I have been attending since 1996.  I have loved skiing since I was a kid, but being from NY I had only experienced the Vermont slopes.  With the airline club, I was able to ski the big resorts out west and what a difference!  Real powder!  I soon started to race for Northwest and that rekindled my competitive spirit.  I now race in the A division but still have a long way to go to catch the "fast" girls!  I really enjoy the parties, especially theme party night on Wednesdays.  I like to dance and soon after joining, realized that there are lots of cute, athletic, fun guys in the club too!  I'm looking forward to another great season and hope that Team Delta can hold on to our title as NAASF champions!

Scotty

My ski club friends call me Scotty. DSSC member since 1991. I grew up skiing but mostly at the smaller resorts throughout the Pacific Northwest.  The ski club gave us a reason (and the great group discounts) to expand our skiing to not only the best resorts in the U.S. but to many of the top European resorts as well. The group of lifelong friends I have made from airlines all over the world is priceless.  DSSC is now one of the largest ski and snowboard clubs in NAASF and we look forward to defending our team titles. Think snow!

Rob

I started skiing in my thirties. Late bloomer. When I first came to SLC, I heard about Delta Ski & Snowboard Club.  Since joining in 1999, I have made some of the greatest friendships, and been to some awesome resorts in N. America, as well as Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden & Finland.  I've also become a much better skier. (Okay, I sound like a commercial!) But seriously, it's a blast! The parties are fun, the resorts are excellent, and the people are real friends. I've been V. President, & President of the club, and I'm currently a board member. Needless to say, joining the club is one of the best things I've ever done!  Hope to see you out there on the slopes!

Sarah

I came to my first ski week in 2005 at Steamboat, CO. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. I had heard that the parties were pretty wild, and I'd never raced before.  I had so much fun at my first ski week, that I've rarely missed one since.  I've made some great friends from many different airlines.  I also was able to improve my skiing considerably since joining the club.  The ski instruction that I received at the Copper Mountain Clinics has really been a big help.  I never thought I would be ski racing before I joined the club, but now I really get a kick out of racing.  And yes, we do have a lot of fun at the parties.

Telluride and Season Recap PDF Print E-mail
Written by Scott Aldrich

Wow, another ski season has come and gone. The Telluride week was the largest meet of the season with over 250 participants. Delta alone had over 40 members attend. We started the week with perfect weather and the skiing and boarding on Monday and Tuesday was fantastic. Telluride had tons of snow – they could stay open for weeks yet this was their closing weekend (something to do with Forest Service requirements). The lodging at "The Peaks" was top notch. We are encouraging members to stay at the resort sponsored properties.  Remember that when NAASF puts a contract together with a resort, the resort expects to make money off of lodging.  If they don't, they will not ask NAASF to return for future events.

The Tuesday night team dinner was a huge success. For twelve bucks club members received fantastic hors d'oeuvres, a free drink, dinner, live band and a very cool Delta Ski and Snowboard club hat. Again this was YOUR club dues at work – non-members paid $22 for the dinner. Our dinner was so popular that Air Tran, Jet Blue, USAir and Alaska Airlines joined us. After our dinner, the private party was opened up to all other ski teams to enjoy socializing and dancing to our live band. Thanks again to Demian Brooks, the Telluride ski week coordinator and Delta Club member, for setting this all up for us.

The Wednesday night theme party, "Gold Rush", was awesome with most everyone dressed up. Telluride provided hors d'oeuvres and a live band. The dance floor was crowded all night long. The Thursday awards dinner was another great value with a buffet dinner and a great DJ providing another long night of dancing and socializing.

As far as boarding and skiing, it was another great week for Delta. For the year we won the "Sponsors' Cup", which is the most points for the 'A' racers. We were second in the NAASF Cup which is A, B and Snowboard combined. For all ski and snowboard race results go to www.naasf.com.

Top Delta finishers for the Telluride week were:

Women's Snowboard: Lesli Tomasini - 1st place followed by Holly Prussy in 5th.

Men's Snowboard Demian Brooks 1st place, Frank Kruse 2nd , Mike Weber 5th, Reed Crocker 8th and Carson Wellman 15th.

B Women's GS: Kelly Rivard 3rd, Carlyn Juergens 9th and Amy Eddins 25th.

B Women's Slalom: Kelly Rivard 4th.

B Mens GS: Yves Lafeuillade 2nd, Jason Garnier 11th, Rob Mastic 24th and Todd Anthony 27th.

B Mens SL: Todd Anthony 9th and Rob Mastic 12th.

A Women's GS: Heather Patterson 6th, Katrena Garske 8th and Sarah Abbett 10th.

A Women's SL: Sally Martin 1st, Heather Patterson 6th, Katrena Garske 10th and Jane Barr 13th.

A Men's GS: Scott Aldrich 2nd, Demian Brooks 8th, Frank Kruse 10th, Kurt Syer 12th, Taz Coffey 13th, Corey Stuhr 18th and Earl Okuda 21st.

A Men's SL: Chuck Wagner 1st, Scott Aldrich 2nd, Demian Brooks 10th, Corey Stuhr 11th, Taz Coffey 12th and Earl Okuda 14th.

Holly Prussy was awarded the Delta Ski and Snowboard Club "Len Rossman" award – this is essentially a spirit award. Holly can be counted on to bring fun and smiles to every ski and board week. Congratulations Holly!

Frank Kruse was awarded the Spirit of NAASF award – this award is voted on by the NAASF board members and recognizes Frank's achivement and support of the NAASF organization through his volunteer efforts over the years. Congratulations, Frank!

I want to thank all of you that helped make this season a success. It is your support that makes the discounts and the fun possible. I also want to thank all of the club officers and board members for their support and help keeping me in line and clued in to what I needed to get done.

Now that the season is over many will not think of the club again until next fall – but for a few of us there will be work to be done throughout the off season; coming up with promotional ideas, budgeting, advertising and spreading the word on how much value and fun the Delta Ski and Snowboard Club has to offer. You can help by spreading the word to all your co-workers!

Thanks again to all.

See you next fall!
